I was back home in Key West for a short visit to family and I couldn't visit without taking a few photos. This one is of Dog Beach. Yes, you read that right. This view is looking north past the corner of Louie's Back Yard restaurant to the pavilion on the Casa Marina dock.

 I have family and friends living in Jupiter, Florida so I picked this tiki hut at a resort on the ocean for this post. It's on the north side of the inlet and this view is from Duboise Park on the south side of the inlet. It looks so inviting and I thought it would make a good drawing.

 Since I've gone over 50,000 views I'm going to try to post with more regularity. Here are some tourists I saw when I was down in Key West visiting family. Not sure why but this dad with his two kids caught my eye. I just hope they don't stop in at Sloppy Joe's Bar.

 I'm working on a studio painting and I wanted to get some preliminary work in. So why not make it into a finished drawing? I need to post more here anyway. Spoonbills are a lovely and exotic water bird we have here in south Florida and they're also native to the wetlands of South America. I saw some on my way to Key West and couldn't resist getting a few pics.

 I've been attending life drawing sessions on a regular basis for over 45 years. But, I haven't posted many on this blog. We do timed drawings starting with 1 min. sketches, then 2 min., then 5min. and up until we get to one or two 20 minute poses. lately we've been finishing up with a 30 or 40 minute pose. It may be the best way to keep that eye coordination sharp. Here's the 25 minute pose from last night.

Here's a second group of drawings I did while doing a residency in Italy. The top drawings are from Rome and the others are from Farindola. Farindola is a small mountain town with breathtaking views in eastern Italy. Its' old town section was built over a thousand years ago and is full of folksy romance with its’ thick stone walls, barrel tile roofs and narrow pathways.

 Some of the 30 composition/value studies done on a recent artists residency in Italy. I was honored to be one of six south Florida artists invited to do a 12 day residency in Farindola, Italy. I did some watercolors too but this is a drawing blog. We spent a few days in Rome first, hence the Colosseum sketch.

 I did this a while back, not sure why I never posted it. I think it fits well on the blog, so here it is. It's a little neighborhood home in Ft Lauderdale, Fl, probably built in the 50s or 60s. I liked the underlying abstract shapes in the composition.
